
The Coffee County Landfill opened in October 1993 as the first EPA Subtitle D Landfill in the State of Alabama. It is owned and operated by the Coffee County Commission. The entire site of the landfill encompasses 423 acres, with 183 acres available for disposal of municipal solid waste (MSW) and 15 acres available for disposal of construction and demolition waste (C&D). As of 2017, the Coffee County Landfill has 5.2 million cubic yards of MSW in place covering approximately 82 acres at an average depth of 60 feet. The life expectancy of the Coffee County Landfill is over 100 years at the current flow of waste. Approximately 150,000 tons of MSW and C&D are disposed at the Coffee County Landfill each year.
Operations
Operating under Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM) Permit Number 16-10, the Coffee County Landfill is permitted to receive waste from the states of Alabama, Georgia, and Florida at a rate not to exceed 1,200 tons per calendar day. All waste received at the landfill is disposed of in accordance with all federal and state regulations.
